Lioness Season 3 Episode 2 Review: An Adrenaline-Inducing “No Sorrow Like the Survivor” Ups the Stakes

Lioness Season 3 Episode 1 proves to be a formidable follow-up to the Lioness Season 3 premiere.

It picks up the pace and gives you enough breadcrumbs to keep you coming back for more.

We see firsthand how Joe operates after being kidnapped and sets the stage for the rest of the episode.

The episode cuts to Joe’s clothes being cut and her being searched.

The Ukrainians pulled out a knife and grazed it over her body until she revealed where the locator was hidden. And me? I held my breath, afraid of what they actually had planned for her.

Watching them yank the locator out of her big toe when she finally told them where to find it was enough to make you wince. That was the only information she was willing to give them.

It was apparent that it was to stall for more time, I just hope her idea doesn’t backfire.

Watching her basically surrender the locator still proves how calculated she is. Still, I wonder if she can hold on long enough for her team to find her.

The hour brings us back to Joe’s home. The kids are starting to panic after the home invasion and the gunshots that woke them up.

They also know that their mother has been missing for way too long, and Neal is forced to deal with the worst-case scenario and his own personal nightmare while getting more screen time to show how he reacts under pressure.

The flashback to the men pretending to be police showed his internal panic.

It initially seemed like it would end there, but every rewatch reveals new clues that I hadn’t noticed before. Even though it was obvious they were lying from the moment they walked up to the door, I still managed to catch hints during the scene.

What makes Joe stand out is her independence and strength. Her entire identity does not revolve around another person.

She is career-driven and willing to make sacrifices. In this installment, she proves how resilient she is by staying calm even after being kidnapped and forced into an impossible situation.

This complex storyline makes No Sorrow Like the Survivor even more cinematic, making her dangerous situation all the more exciting to watch.

For once, she has to rely on her team to rescue her.

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn was maintaining her stoic exterior even though her mind was spinning as she handled the crisis with multiple government agencies.

She knows one wrong move could have devastating consequences, but what is the right answer when everything is on the line?

Kaitlyn continues with the fallout and chaos after everyone finds out Joe was compromised. She’s got this. Everything’s going to be fine. Maybe.

I loved watching the back-and-forth scenes between the two, which show how much pressure Kaitlyn carries behind the scenes.

Even after I watched her captors roughly interrogate her and dig out the locator, I still have faith in Joe, even though it’s becoming clearer that everyone is lost and rightfully so.

Cruz, however, remains infuriatingly relatable. We see her grow closer to her teammate. What could go wrong, right? Insert foot in mouth.

I really do want to see her happy, I do, but it’s frustrating knowing she always manages to fall for the wrong one.

Her emotions have always been a complicated part of her character that can be difficult to get behind.

The hour shows that her heart is obviously her greatest weakness, but it could also be her greatest strength.

She just has to get out of her own way, which a lot of us can relate to. She’s compassionate and human to a fault, but they can also cloud her judgment. But not all is fair in love and war.

Ultimately, “No Sorrow Like the Survivor” was a formidable follow-up episode to Lioness‘ season opener.

It continues to build the tension while showing the consequences of the choices the characters have to make.

From Joe’s kidnapping to Kaitlyn’s frantic office dealings, the episode established a highly promising and complex situation, and Cruz’s complicated storyline.

It’s not the mission that puts them in danger, it’s their actions and their reactions. Teamwork and trust might be the only answers that save them.

This had everything I would want out of a political thriller: fraught tension, complicated love angles, secrets, and agonizing decisions none of us can comprehend.

The stakes are higher than ever, making me wonder if Joe’s team will actually manage to reach her before it’s too late.

At the same time, it’ll be interesting to see how Kaitlyn’s chaotic situation plays out.

Will she be able to handle everything or buckle under the pressure? It seems like no one was safe in this episode, and I loved watching the stakes being raised.

I cannot wait to see how all of this unfolds.
