Ghost Rider is connected to Star Wars in more ways than just Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy. It was recently announced that the Project Hail Mary actor will play the new Spirit of Vengeance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role will fulfill a lifelong dream for the Canadian star, and the casting news has pleased many fans.
Alongside the lead star and director, Marvel also revealed the writer for the upcoming Ghost Rider movie. During the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Jonathan Tropper would write the screenplay for the MCU movie.
The American author is another link between the MCU and Star Wars, having written the screenplay for Star Wars: Starfighter. This will be the second collaboration between Gosling, Levy, and Tropper, as they previously worked on Star Wars: Starfighter.
What are Jonathan Tropper’s credits prior to Ghost Rider?
Tropper has previously worked on multiple projects, including movies and series. The 56-year-old is also credited as a writer for The Adam Project, Lucky, The Wrecking Crew, Kodachrome, Banshee, See, and Warrior.
Beyond Ghost Rider and Star Wars: Starfighter, his future projects include an untitled FBI wedding-sting comedy and another untitled spy comedy with Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart.
While the new Ghost Rider movie is still in its pre-production stage, more details are expected soon. However, as of now, no further casting details have been revealed. The movie is slated to release in the year 2028, but no official date has been revealed yet.
The original Ghost Rider film was released in 2007 and was written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The movie starred the Oscar-winning Nicolas Cage and Gosling’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes. The movie got a sequel in 2011 with Spirit of Vengeance, written by David S. Goyer.
Tropper’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2027.
