We’ve lost a member of the Queer Eye family.
If you watched season one of the acclaimed Netflix reboot, you’ll surely remember standout Tom Jackson, the very first “straight guy” helped by the Fab 5. Starring in the 2018 premiere episode titled, You Can’t Fix Ugly, the Georgia resident opened up about his battle with lupus, and eventually regained his confidence after getting a complete makeover. He even reconnected with his ex-wife (though they separated again in 2019 — reality TV can’t fix everything).
Sadly, we must report that the fan fave has tragically passed away at the age of 63. It just seems so young these days.

According to his online obituary, Tom died last Friday “after losing a battle with metastatic adenocarcinoma” — a deadly form of cancer in the gland tissue that lines the organs.
The obituary focused on the positive, however, describing how Tom “absolutely loved being a Papaw to his two grandsons who were his pride and joy.” It made special mention of how profound of an affect the reality show had on him:
“A highlight of Tom’s life was being cast on the Netflix show, [Queer Eye]. He enjoyed the notoriety and shared his experience with whoever would listen!”
Awww! So sweet.
In response to the heartbreaking news, the show’s official Instagram account recognized the loss of their alum Wednesday, writing in tribute:
“it’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a member of our Queer Eye family. Rest in peace, Tom Jackson”
Tan France, the show’s fashion designer, took to the comments to share his condolences, writing, “Such incredibly sad news,” while hairstylist Jonathan Van Ness added, “RIP Tom.” Interior designer Bobby Berk also chimed in, writing:
“RIP Tom. Having a Redneck Margarita in your honor.”

In an October 2021 tweet, the late reality star reflected on his experience being “the 1st episode on Netflix Queer Eye”, writing:
“I was just being myself and having fun with the Fab 5. I love all the guys of the Fab 5. I think they all enjoyed working with me. The creators and executives told me that I was a natural.”

His obituary cheekily asks:
“In lieu of flowers, please watch season 1, episode 1 of Queer Eye on Netflix and tell others about it in honor of Tom.”
Awww! It’s such a sweet and easy tribute! Going to turn on Netflix right now!
