Dashing, daring, and a man with a dark past, Brad Pitt‘s Cliff Booth is breaking out on his own after making his scene-stealing debut in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. The effortlessly cool stuntman is stepping into the spotlight for a new adventure that puts Booth front and center in Netflix’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth, due out in theaters for an exclusive two-week engagement on November 25 and streaming on December 23.
A neo-noir dramedy film directed by David Fincher and written by Tarantino is set eight years after the events of OUATH, taking the former stuntman into 1977, as he now navigates Tinseltown as a fixer.
Along for the ride is Timothy Olyphant, who reprises his role as real-life 1970s western television actor James Stacy. For those who are not familiar with Stacy, here is a brief look at the controversial cowboy who will be appearing in the Fincher film.
Who is James Stacy?
Born in 1936, Stacy started in Hollywood via television guest spots in the late 1950s, and his first claim to fame was a recurring role as Fred on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. He is best known for starring in the Western series Lancer. He played the role of Johnny Madrid Lancer, a former gunslinger, on the CBS series from 1968 to 1970.
He was also once married to singer Connie Stevens, as well as True Grit star Kim Darby.

What happened to Stacy after Lancer?
Stacy suffered a devastating motorcycle accident in 1973 caused by a drunk driver that killed his girlfriend and required the amputation of his left arm and leg. However, he returned to acting in roles that accommodated his injuries and earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the TV movie Just a Little Inconvenience.
He is best known to modern audiences for his role as Ed, the Bartender in the 1983 Disney film Something Wicked This Way Comes, opposite Jason Robards and Jonathan Pryce.
Who is James Stacy in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood?
Stacy is depicted by Olyphant as the regular star on the CBS TV series Lancer, working on set alongside Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Rick Dalton, who guest stars as the villain. At the end of his scenes in the movie, Stacy is shown riding away from the Lancer set on a motorcycle, a bit of a nod to Stacy’s later accident.
Why is James Stacy controversial?
Later in his life, he was plagued by legal troubles when, in 1996, Stacy was convicted of assaulting a young girl, which led to a six-year jail sentence.
Stacy died September 9, 2016, in Ventura, California. He was 79.
