Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, opens up after facing backlash over her initial comments about her daughter’s death. She addressed their estrangement and what she believes led to her death. Panettiere passed away at the age of 36 on August 16 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Hayden Panettiere’s mom Lesley Vogel issues another statement
Vogel’s initial comments following her daughter’s demise garnered massive criticism. However, she issued another statement to clarify her complex relationship with her daughter and speak about her death. She told Entertainment Tonight, “Although my daughter and I were estranged, it was not for lack of care or love. It was due to the involvement of a toxic individual who I believe led to her death.”
She described Panettiere as a “beautiful and talented young woman” whom she believed got involved with the wrong person. While she claims that the family tried to get that person out of her life, they were unsuccessful. “I hope all remember Hayden for the beautiful human being inside her and her gift to the world from her time on this earth. My heart is with you, Hayden. Mama,” she concluded.
This comment comes amid her previous statement a day after her daughter’s demise. She said to NBC News, “I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.”
She suggested that pressure and control from people in the industry can make it difficult to stay true to oneself, and believes Hayden lost her way. She hoped that things could have been different. These remarks were met with criticism, with several calling out her bad parenting style.
