LIBI leadership outlined priorities around housing production, jobs and economic growth
Jon Weiss, a principal of B2K Development, has been named the new president of the Long Island Builders Institute.
Weiss succeeds Anthony Bartone, managing partner at Terwilliger & Bartone Properties, who will now serve as LIBI chairman. The builders’ group’s new slate of officers was inducted at LIBI’s annual dinner last week at the Heritage Club at Bethpage State Park, where guest speakers Nassau Executive Bruce Blakeman and Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico talked about the growing importance of housing production, job creation and economic growth to Long Island’s future.
Other new LIBI officers include Ken Abrami of Tritec, who was tapped as vice president; Devin Kulka of the Kulka Group, who serves as treasurer; Alex Lipsky of Lipsky Construction, who was named secretary; and Anthony Confredo of Maggio Environmental, who’ll serve as associate vice president, according to a LIBI statement.
At the event, Weiss outlined a shift in how the industry will engage policymakers and the public in 2026 and beyond.
“Developers and labor are no longer parallel interests — we are aligned interests,” Weiss said, according to the statement. “We share the same goals: jobs that stay on Long Island, projects that move from paper to construction, and housing that working families can actually afford. Opposing reasonable development is no longer a low-risk position.”
Weiss also stressed that LIBI intends to reward leadership and challenge obstruction when policies threaten the region’s economic future, while emphasizing the importance of expanding LIBI’s base to ensure a durable and effective political voice.
“To stay strong, we must grow broader, younger, and more engaged,” Weiss said. “That means attracting emerging builders, developers, and industry professionals, engaging members earlier in their careers, and presenting LIBI as modern, proactive, and future-facing.”
LIBI CEO Mike Florio voiced strong support for the incoming leadership team and its priorities.
“This leadership group understands what this moment requires,” Florio said. “They are focused on results — producing housing, protecting jobs, and modernizing how our industry advocates for itself. LIBI is fully aligned behind this team and committed to building the coalition and political strength necessary to deliver real progress for Long Island.”
Last spring, LIBI opened its new offices at 534 Broadhollow Road in Melville, relocating its headquarters from its long-time home in Islandia, where it had been for more than 30 years.
Founded in 1941, the Long Island Builders Institute, which has more than 650 members, is the state’s largest trade group representing commercial and residential builders, remodelers, multifamily developers, rental buildings, general contractors and related businesses.
