Netflix made some announcements regarding the future of their “The Witcher” franchise during Tudum 2022 this afternoon, including news on the upcoming Season 3.
For starters, spinoff series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” is coming to Netflix in December 2022, we learned during Tudum, which is set to be a prequel to the main series.
“The Witcher: Blood Origin” is set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of “The Witcher” and will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Additionally, Netflix has announced that “The Witcher” Season 3 will arrive in Summer 2023, with Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), and Freya Allan (Princess Cirilla of Cintra) all returning for the next chapter in the epic monster-slaying saga.
In “The Witcher” Season 3…
“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
