It won’t be long until we see Herman, Lily, and the rest of the crew in glorious full color for the first time.
The Munsters, Rob Zombie’s big-screen adaptation of the 1960s TV sitcom, will debut on Netflix on September 27, the same day it hits Blu-ray and video-on-demand.
The film is classified PG and is a look back at Herman and Lily’s courtship; it also serves as a type of genesis narrative for the monster tribe.
The film directed by Zombie will focus on the beginnings of Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Herman Munster’s (Jeff Daniel Phillips) romance, updating the legendary 1960s CBS sitcom while remaining faithful to its groovy roots. An official trailer for the film was released last month, and it revealed several narrative points that would likely be explored throughout the movie. Lily’s relationship with her father, The Count (Dan Roebuck), who despises her new boyfriend, will also be explored more.
Taking viewers “deeper into this hauntingly sidesplitting adventure and the kooky undead family, just in time for Halloween,” the home media release of the film includes an hour’s worth of bonus features, including never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage with the cast and writer/director Rob Zombie.
Star of the Munsters, Jeff The film stars Daniel Phillips as Herman, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, with Pat Priest and Butch Patrick reprising their roles from the television series.
Additional cast members include Richard Brake, Sylvester McCoy, Jorge Garcia, Cassandra Peterson, Catherine Schell, Tomas Boykin, Jeremy Wheeler, and Dee Wallace.
In addition to the debut of his cinematic interpretation, Zombie has remained true to his musical roots by releasing not one but two albums with a strong in-universe focus. Two of the creepy host’s most popular songs, “It’s Zombo” and “House of Zombo,” are featured on the debut Zombo record. Another recent release was an announcement that Zombie will be releasing a vinyl featuring Herman and Lily, who would sing a cover of “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher. Both albums can be purchased now. Despite the fact that there has been radio silence on an official soundtrack or any other musical musings based on The Munsters, we anticipate that Zombie will release at least a couple more surprises for his fans in the following month.
