There are a lot of different horror streaming services out there, and it can be difficult to decide which one is the best. In this article, we’ll be reviewing the best horror streaming services available, and rating them according to their overall quality.
Netflix
We’ll start with Netflix. Netflix is well known for its high-quality horror movies, and its library of movies is constantly growing. It’s also one of the most affordable options out there, with monthly subscription prices starting at $7.99 per month.
Netflix is available in over 190 countries, meaning that anyone with an internet connection and a Netflix subscription can watch the streaming service’s library of TV shows and movies. The company started out as a DVD-by-mail service in 1997 and has since expanded its reach to streaming devices, including smart TVs, gaming consoles, and tablets.
Netflix is one of the best ways to get your horror fix. Whether you’re looking for classic horror movies like The Exorcist or newer thrillers like Get Out, Netflix has them all. Some of our favorite horror movies on Netflix include: Annabelle: Creation, A Quiet Place, IT, The Shining, and The Haunting of Hill House.
Netflix Originals are also becoming more popular than ever. The company has released fantastic new original series (including “Stranger Things”, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, and “The Crown”), which garnered critical acclaim and helped to fuel the company’s subscriber growth. With such a large selection of content, Netflix has something for everyone. Netflix subscribers can also stream their favorite shows and movies through the Netflix app, which is available for iOS, Android, Chromecast, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV. The app also allows you to watch live TV from a wide variety of channels.
Netflix has a reputation for providing high-quality pictures, even in low-resolution settings. This is thanks to the company’s use of HDR (high dynamic range) technology.
Netflix’s picture quality is especially noteworthy when compared to other streaming services. In general, Netflix’s picture quality is better than services from traditional television networks like ABC and NBC. Additionally, many TV shows and movies that are available on Netflix are not available on other streaming services. This can be due to licensing agreements or because those films have not been released on streaming services yet.
Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services available today. It offers a great selection of horror films as well as other films. It also has a very reasonable price tag.
Shudder
Shudder is an outstanding streaming service for horror fans. It offers a great selection of horror movies, with new additions being added regularly. The cost is not that much, making it a great option for budget-conscious viewers. The only drawback is that some titles are not available in certain countries.
Shudder provides its users with an uncensored and ad-free experience while watching their favorite horror, thriller, and supernatural films and programs. This streaming service has a vast selection of genres, all of which are excellent options for viewers who are looking for truly terrifying forms of entertainment to consume.
If you’re looking for a horror movie experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat, look no further than Shudder. They offer an impressive selection of original horror movies that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Whether you’re a fan of dark and suspenseful tales or love all things gory, Shudder has something for you.
It’s worth noting that AMC+, which may soon drop the shudder branding, has also integrated the service into the network’s larger programming family. The integration is likely to consume the shudder brand, but it could also result in some innovative programming ideas.
Fans of both modern and classic horror will find hours of entertainment in Shudder’s extensive library. There is a remarkable amount of independent and cult classic media available on the service. If you are more interested in modern Hollywood blockbusters, it is possible that the library will not offer what you are looking for.
One of the most significant downsides of the service is that the majority of the older titles are only available in 480p resolution videos can look pixelated and fuzzy when watched at this resolution. By the standards of today, is not an acceptable level of detail. There are currently no 4K or HDR movies available on Shudder, despite the fact that the service provides a large number of 720p titles and a few 1080p viewing options.
Tubi
Looking for a horror streaming service that doesn’t suck? Look no further than Tubi. This service has a great list of horror movies, and all are free to watch! Plus, the user interface is easy to use and navigate. So if you’re looking for a good horror streaming experience, Tubi is the perfect choice.
This free streaming solution is outstanding, featuring some of the very best box office titles along with a growing list of tubi original horror movies like the new Terror Train remakes. Tubi is a fantastic platform because they embrace horror films and have an annual event called Terror on Tubi. This free streaming solution features some of the very best box office titles.
You don’t need to sign up to enjoy scary movies on Tubi; you can start watching right now.
As of right now, the highest resolution you can get with the free Tubi streaming service is 720p, which is perfectly usable but may seem a little grainy on a 4K television. As such, it’s a drawback of the free service.
Amazon Prime Video
If you’re looking for a high-quality selection of horror movies, Amazon Prime Video is another great option. The streaming service offers a wide variety of horror movies, including some of the classics. Plus, since it’s part of Amazon Prime, you can be sure that the movies are high quality. And if you’re a subscriber to Amazon Prime, you also get free two-day shipping on eligible items. So whether you’re looking for a horror movie to watch on your own or with friends, Amazon Prime Video is an excellent choice.
What started as a small online store has become one of the largest in the world for selling horror and thriller films. Amazon Prime members can order any movie they want, without having to wait for weeks or months. With more than 200 movies available to choose from, Amazon Prime members are sure to find the perfect movie to watch.
Screambox
This one is relatively new, but it’s been getting a lot of attention from the horror community recently, they also were one of the sources to watch Terrifier 2 during its launch.
Screambox is a fan-made horror-centric portal that provides excellent value to the genre’s dedicated audience. The service offers a collection of horror films that can be viewed on demand across many devices, commercial-free. Dedicated horror enthusiasts may still enjoy the platform’s movies despite the lack of popular titles and limited original programming options.
The Screambox app is available for download on multiple platforms, including mobile phones (Android and iOS), game consoles (PlayStation and Xbox), and media players (Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, and Roku).
Screambox supports up to a 1080p HD streaming, while the actual quality you experience will be determined on your Internet bandwidth. Whenever the program detects a connection speed that is less than optimal, it automatically reduces the video quality to save data. You can also adjust the video quality to high, medium, or low in advance if you have a slow connection or will be in an area with inconsistent service.
The monthly cost of Screambox’s premium, ad-free subscription is $4.99. There is a free plan that is sponsored by ads, but you can’t access the premium features.
Crackle
Crackle is arguably the best free streaming service. Anime, documentaries, and even original series may all be found on the site. In addition, they have a wide variety of thrillers and horror films, ideal for the purpose of causing a fright or two.
Encounters of the Third Kind and Invasion of the Body Snatchers are two of the most well-known and popular horror films that can be found on Crackle.
About 700 movies and just over 100 TV shows are available on Crackle. Since most TV shows on Crackle are missing at least a few seasons, the service mostly appeals to movie buffs. Crackle has a sizable collection, but it pales in comparison to Tubi’s boasted 40,000 titles.
Like any free service, Crackle comes with some compromises that you’ll need to accept. For example, it provides complete, high-definition 720p movies, but you have to sit through a lot of advertising.
Full Moon Features
On-demand streaming TV service Full Moon Features (FMF) includes not only horror films and series, but also action, comedy, Eurocult, science fiction, and softcore erotica flicks—all with extra cheese. While the majority of their releases come from their own Full Moon Studios/Full Moon Pictures label.
Full Moon Features is a great choice for those interested in spooky and obscure movies. The app runs like butter, and the library alone is worth the cost. The savings on an annual subscription and the 10 complimentary DVDs/Blu-rays (total value of $170) make this a phenomenal deal.
We were able to view it on two different cellphones (using the Full Moon Features mobile app) and an Xbox One at the same time, however Full Moon Features does not specify the number of concurrent streams it supports. At least three simultaneous streams are available from Full Moon Features, which is about par for the course among streaming TV services.
The annual subscription to Full Moon Features is $59.99, or $6.99 each month.
Hulu
Next on our list is Hulu. Hulu has a smaller selection of horror movies than Netflix but they’re all well-made and worth watching. Their monthly subscription prices start at $8 per month.
Hulu also has its own live stream platform which allows users to watch shows and movies in real time. Hulu Plus is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Mac and it offers access to content from all the major subscription streaming platforms. Hulu Plus features hundreds of movies and TV shows from US cable networks such as AMC, FX Networks and Sundance Channel.
Hulu, much like Netflix and Amazon, makes its own original programming. Though its content has been hit-or-miss and many of its shows have been cancelled, the network’s track record is improving. Castle Rock is one of Hulu’s best original shows.
Hulu’s on-demand catalog and live TV may be viewed in a variety of HD video formats, including 720p, 1080p, 4K Ultra HD, and 60 frames per second.
Hulu’s on-demand, commercial-supported service now costs $7.99 monthly. You’ll need to pay the monthly fee of $14.99 to disable the advertising.
Arrow Player
If you’re looking for cult classics, Arrow Player has more than 600 of them in its streaming library. It means, to begin with, a slew of obscure horror films like Ghosthouse, Horror Hospital, and The Devil’s Rain, as well as a few more mainstream ones that are just plain odd.
Arrow Player is a straightforward streaming service that provides access to hundreds of films from Arrow’s neglected filmography without having to shell out a small fortune on Blu-ray discs. It’s a completely acceptable service that does what it promises it will do, albeit viewers do need to be interested in the library for it to be useful.
You can use Arrow Player to simultaneously stream movies to three devices. The web player can be minimized for PIP mode and has quality controls. The addition of 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR).
Pay $6.99/mo or pay $64.99/yr for Arrow Player. Those two tiers are the only ones available, and they both remove the need for advertisements. The 30-day free trial period offered by Arrow is particularly fair.
Night Flight Plus
If you like the four-hour block of cartoons, cult movies, music videos, artist interviews, and other unique and strange media that was broadcast on the USA Network in the 1980s under the name Night Flight, then you are going to adore the Night Flight Plus streaming service.
There are two live channels available with Night Flight Plus: Night Flight TV and Night Flight TVi: Independent Music Video Channel. Both of these channels broadcast content from the Night Flight Plus library without the interruption of advertisements around the clock.
Night Flight Plus provides two subscription options, one of which costs $4.99 per month and the other $39.99 per year.
