With The Game Awards happening once again this December, horror video game fans can look forward to a show of their own with The Horror Game Awards 2023. Announced for December 16, the event is set to be streamed live on YouTube.
First kicking off in 2022 (and not to be confused with Feardemic’s recent Horror Game Awards), The Horror Game Awards is the brainchild of YouTuber Phil Dickens aka AKblackandred and Will Penkeyman of Resident Evil Central. The aim of The Horror Game Awards is simple: to celebrate horror as one of the best genres in video games, and to recognise the year’s greatest horror games alongside the developers who make them. Fourteen content creators made up last year’s jury, which has now doubled in size for this year, with the awards expanded in scope.
Each member of the jury gets to nominate one game for each category they are a part of, with this year having a total of ten categories. Those nominations then go out to a public vote in early December, with the top three comprising the finalists for that category. The jury then picks a winner from the finalists through a preference vote. There is also a Players’ Choice Horror Game Award voted on by the public.
Nomination information is available via the official site, with the cutoff date being the final week of November (though that’s yet to be confirmed).
And for those curious about last year’s winners, you can check them out here.
