Australia’s outback is about to become a whole lot scarier. The Red, a blood-curdling horror comedy, is set to rip its way into cinemas this Halloween, introducing the world to the most terrifying marsupial to ever hop across the silver screen: Rippy the zombie kangaroo.
Imagine a creature that combines the cuddly charm of a koala with the insatiable appetite of a T-Rex. That’s Rippy. By day, he’s an ordinary Aussie bloke. But when the sun sets, he transforms into a blood-thirsty, muscle-bound monster with a penchant for human flesh.
The film follows young, fearless cop Maddy (Tess Haubrich) as she faces off against this undead menace. Armed with nothing but courage and a questionable amount of common sense, she must protect her small town from Rippy’s relentless rampage. Joining her in this gory quest is her eccentric uncle, Schmitty (Michael Biehn), a grizzled veteran with a penchant for explosive devices and questionable life choices.
Director Ryan Coonan has crafted a visceral, over-the-top horror experience that pays homage to classic creature features while injecting a healthy dose of Aussie humor. “We wanted to create a film that would make audiences jump out of their seats one minute and laugh out loud the next,” Coonan said. “Rippy is the perfect anti-hero for that.”
Producer Jessica Butland is equally excited about the project. “We’ve assembled an incredible cast and crew to bring this wild story to life,” she said. “From the heart-pounding action sequences to the laugh-out-loud comedic moments, The Red is a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.”
So, if you’re ready to experience the ultimate blend of horror and hilarity, look no further than The Red. Just remember, when you hear that distinctive, guttural growl, run. And if you can’t run, hide. Because Rippy is coming for you.
The Red hops into cinemas on October 31st.
