Those hoping for The Wolf Among Us 2 later this year unfortunately will have to wait a bit longer. Telltale Games has taken to Twitter to explain that the follow-up to the 2013 original has been delayed, and won’t be releasing in 2023.
Speaking to IGN, the decision to delay the game comes down to the studio’s effort to avoid crunch and burnout, as well as to accommodate moving the game from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. The latter was made in order to take advantage of “a number of interesting features” found in Unreal 5, which the team feels is worth the effort.
“If we put this game out and it’s not ready, we’re going to get torn to shreds,” explains Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie. “The expectations are pretty high, and we want time to meet those and we want to be proud of it and know that, ‘Hey, this is the best game we could have made.’ Let the world say what they will [once] it’s done, but at least we know that in these times, in these conditions, this is the best game that we could make.”
“Making games is difficult and they need time to be right,” he said. “And it doesn’t do any of us any good to ship something that’s not ready.”
No revised release date has been announced. The Wolf Among Us 2 is currently in development for Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC via the Epic Games Store.
