The mad lads (and ladies) at New Blood Interactive and developer David Szymanski have unleashed their full visual remaster of DUSK with DUSK HD, which is now available as a free and optional download for Steam owners of the game. Along with the remaster, the Software Development Kit (or DUSK Development Kit, in this case) for the original version of DUSK has also been made available, with the DUSK HD version coming “SOON™”.
In a new Steam page update, the team acknowledges that it’s been “five long years” since DUSK v1.0 hit the platform, and that they’ve always promised to make DUSK “as open and moddable for you as we possibly can.” With that said, the road to remastering DUSK with remade enemies, weapons, models and textures wasn’t easy, having spent the last few months rewriting the code and working overtime on DUSK HD “to make sure it’s as legitimate and cohesive and possible.”
But they did it, and now it’s yours to play.
As mentioned, the full Dusk Development Kit built upon the new version of DUSK is “still a few weeks away”, but you can now make and play custom maps, (even basically drag and drop in Quake and Half-Life maps) use texture replacements and sound replacements. Plus every file from the base game is available for budding modders to use. “Once the FULL SDK built on the new version of DUSK is available SOON™ you will be able to play all the custom maps with both Classic or HD visuals, replace weapons, models and more.”
And if all that wasn’t enough, the team has added a brand-new weapon to the game in the form of Claw of the Flesh, which shares the same weapon slot as the crossbow!
If for some unbelievable reason you haven’t experienced the glory that is DUSK, it’s available now with a 66% discount on Steam until December 18th. You can also find DUSK on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.
