In the wake of three sequels and a spinoff crossover film with the Lake Placid franchise (no really, that totally happened), the 1997 film Anaconda is plotting a return to the screen.
Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) is scripting and directing the next Anaconda movie for Columbia Pictures, which is attracting some big name talent.
THR reports tonight that Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star!
“According to sources,” The Hollywood Reporter details, “the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth.
“They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.”
The original film was directed by Luis Llosa, and it featured an ensemble cast including Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo.
In the 1997 movie, a film crew is taken hostage by an insane hunter, who forces them along on his quest to capture the world’s largest – and deadliest – snake.
