In case you missed it, Capcom has released the “Chainsaw Demo” for the Resident Evil 4 remake, which includes no time restrictions. That’s probably a good thing for multiple reasons, as some fans have discovered that the Chainsaw Demo holds a secret in the form of a hidden difficulty level.
“Mad Chainsaw Mode” is an Extreme difficulty for the Resident Evil 4 demo that can only be unlocked by chance. Players will randomly get the new difficulty by starting a new game. You’ll know when you’ve activated it by the warning screen that appears when you start:
As you can see, this difficulty mode won’t be included in the final version of Resident Evil 4 (though depending on the fan response, you never know if Capcom will add it in a future update).
So what’s exactly in this new difficulty mode? Enemies will be beefed up, for one. On top of having additional health, the villagers will be more aggressive, and their placement in the world will also be mixed up. To top it off, the chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador will be switched out for a stronger variant that swings a flaming chainsaw.
Oh, and there are no checkpoints. Meaning, if you die, it’s game over, and you’ll have to try to activate Mad Chainsaw Mode all over again.
That should keep you busy until the full version of Resident Evil 4 comes out on March 24 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and the Xbox Series.
