The team behind found footage horror movie The Houses October Built has announced Haunt Society’s Nightmare Fuel, a first-of-its-kind horror-themed Fortnite map that promises the ultimate horror experience for the popular video game just in time for Halloween!
Big Honeycomb, Inc. partnered with filmmakers Bobby Roe and Zack Andrews and Unreal Development Studio Big Sky XR to showcase the Fortnite horror island experience, and the trailer (below) hints at entering and fighting through a worst dream scenario.
In Haunt Society’s Nightmare Fuel, “As the Nightmare Warrior, you must enter a nightmare to battle evil and kill the enemy. This is an unguided Exploration. Find Clues and Hidden Mysteries. Solve Puzzles. Collect all four keys. Cook garlic to kill vampires. Battle alone or with friends. Along the way, cans of Nightmare Fuel give you strength to continue and survive the horrors of this haunted mansion occupied by a vampire family of MetaHuman enemies.”
Michael Esola, CEO of Big Honeycomb, has worked with the filmmaker duo for many years and brought their experience shooting over 100 different haunted houses with the intent of making a game-changing horror island in Fortnite.
Zack Andrews tells us, “We formed Haunt Society in order to showcase Halloween haunted houses from all over the country. Going through these attractions unlocked so much creativity and ways of getting that experience to an audience. With the success of our VR haunt in RecRoom, we wanted to expand and create the ultimate horror themed Fortnite game.”
Bobby Roe adds, “The goal was to make Inception but with nightmares instead of dreams. Video games allow a creative freedom that any idea, no matter how grand, is executable. Our mission is to continue to scare in different mediums and deliver characters and imagery that can only be described as nightmare fuel. This map is just the beginning in a series of games that explore the many worlds of nightmares.”
Pat Hadnagy, a VFX motion picture veteran and Big Honeycomb’s COO, notes, “Bobby and Zack are incredible visionaries in the world of Haunted Houses and along with our dev partner Big Sky XR, it seemed like the perfect combination of talent and creativity to bring MetaHumans, motion capture and some ground-breaking creative UEFN solutions for Fortnite.”
Haunt Society’s Nightmare Fuel will have a Fortnite Mode and Scary Mode, the player can choose which one to play. Check out the trailer below along with a behind-the-scenes video.
