Godzilla & Godzilla Raids Again Novelizations from University of Minnesota Press
First published in Japan in 1955, the original novelizations of Godzilla and Godzilla Raids Again will be released in English for the first time on October 3 via University of Minnesota Press.
Jeffrey Angles, professor of Japanese at Western Michigan University, has newly translated the original material written by Shigeru Kayama, who conceived the initial story for Godzilla.
The two young adult novellas are being published together in one 256-page book, which is available to pre-order in paperback for $17.41 and and e-book for $9.99.
Scooby-Doo Play Set from Mezco Toyz
Mezco Toyz has announced a Scooby-Doo Friends & Foes box set as part of its 5 Points line of retro-style 3.75” scale action figures. Due out in the fourth quarter of 2023, it’s up for pre-order for $159.99.
It features the Mystery Inc. gang — Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo — four classic villains — Ghost of Elias Kingston (with Stuart Wetherby head), Green Ghosts (with Cosgood Creeps and Cuthbert Crawls heads), and Spooky Space Kook (with Henry Bascomb heads) — the Mystery Machine van, and a two-sided mansion playset.
Accessories include Scooby Snacks box, shoulder bag, candelabra, flashlight, map, ice cream, sandwich, sausage link, magnifying glass, lantern, chest, phonograph, projector, two sets of shackles, and five display bases.
C.H.U.D. Poster from One Man Riet
There’s not enough C.H.U.D. merchandise out there, but Marty “One Man Riet” McEwen is doing his part. Spruce up your underground dwelling with a screen printed blacklight poster featuring black flocking. Priced at $40, it measures 18×24.
M3GAN Vinyl Soundtrack from Waxwork Records
M3GAN may be the future of technology, but the soundtrack is getting a vintage treatment with a vinyl pressing from Waxwork Records. Expected to ship in June, it’s available to pre-order for $40.
Composed by Anthony Willis (Promising Young Woman, Fortnite), the 2xLP album is pressed on 180-gram colored vinyl (Disc 1: pink & white swirl; Disc 2: blue & white swirl). It’s housed in a gatefold jacket with matte satin coating featuring art by Suspiria Vilchez and a 12×12 print.
The Night of the Hunter 4K UHD from Kino Lorber
The Night of the Hunter will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on May 30 via Kino Lorber. The influential 1955 noir thriller has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision/HDR.
Actor Charles Laughton (Witness for the Prosecution) makes his lone directorial effort from a script by James Agee (The African Queen), based on Davis Grubb’s 1953 novel. Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish, Billy Chapin, and Peter Graves star.
Special features include: audio commentary by film historian Tim Lucas; isolated music and effects soundtrack; interviews with filmmaker Ernest Dickerson, actress Kathy Garver, and artist Joe Coleman; and the theatrical trailer.
