Normally, you’d think with the majority of horror games that it’s all about heightening the tension and scaring the player. But what if the game took a more relaxed approach? That’s what developer Andrew Quist is doing with Anemoiapolis, which has its first Chapter available now on Steam.
Touted as “the most relaxing horror game you’ll ever play”, Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1 sees you discover the horror in the familiar and overcome existential dread, or be stuck forever in the ever-looping cycle of “liminal spaces“. You’ll embark on a journey that has you confused and lost in a sprawling yet unoccupied resort, with a goal to forge your own path to freedom.
Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1 exudes mind-numbing dread and scenarios that “weaponize a vast network of mundane rooms and facilities”. Featuring endless carpeted floors and lonely malls, it’s the underlying horror of something so calming, yet has an underlying feeling of something disturbing. It’s also procedurally-generated, making the labyrinths you explore that much more confusing.
In order to escape, you’ll have to solves puzzles to gain access to new areas, on top of making use of obstacles to progress to the next room.
Currently, Anemoiapolis: Chapter 1 has a 10% discount from now until March 10.
