The effects of pollution and climate change have resulted in the human population adapting and undergoing bizarre mutations in response to their new synthetic environment. Among the most significant changes in humans is the disappearance of physical pain and infectious disease. While the majority of people have lost the ability to feel pain, a select few have experienced more extreme changes to their physiology.
Among this group is celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), who, along with his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux) surgically removes the continually growing vestigial organs in Tenser’s body in front of a live audience.
Their act soon attracts the attention of the National Organ Registry, a government agency designed to uphold the restrictions on human evolution.
With Tenser’s help, they hope to infiltrate a group of radical evolutionists that have modified their digestive systems to allow them to eat plastic and other synthetic materials. Now this group is determined to take down the government agency and expose a startling revelation.
Will Tenser be able to infiltrate the group of extremists in time? Or will this group of radicals succeed in their mission to expose a secret that will change the very fabric of human evolution forever.
