As we learned last year, Joe Cornish will head back to the director’s chair for a sequel to 2011’s Attack the Block, with John Boyega also returning to star as the character Moses.
What’s the latest on Attack the Block 2? Plot details remain under wraps, but The Kingcast caught up with Cornish this week and he provided a fresh update on the project.
“We have a very detailed treatment and a storyline we’re very, very excited about – and when I say ‘we,’ I mean me and John Boyega, who [I’m co-producing the film with] and consulting very closely with – and we’re doing all the research to make sure we get it right,” Cornish explains to The Kingcast in their latest episode (quotes transcribed by Fangoria).
Cornish adds, “We think about Alien and Aliens and Terminator and Terminator 2, and we wanna take a shot at doing our version of what people did for [those movies].”
Both Aliens and Terminator 2 took smaller, more intimate stories and blew up the scale while super-sizing the action, and we assume that’s what Cornish is referring to here.
Plot of the sequel remains under wraps. All we know for now is that Cornish is writing and directing the new movie, with Boyega starring and producing.
A teen gang in South London defend their block from an alien invasion in the 2011 movie, which has built up a sizable following of fans who have long begged for a sequel.
Studiocanal, Film4, Complete Fiction Pictures & UpperRoom Productions are behind the sequel.
