A24 debuted a first look today at the next projected by Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar), Beau is Dead.
Formerly titled Disappointment Blvd., the film is described as “an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”
A24 revealed a poster, below, of what appears to be star Joaquin Phoenix‘s character from a young age, in pajamas.
No plot details at this time, but A24 shared in a tweet that we can expect Beau is Afraid to arrive next year.
Parker Posey (“Lost in Space”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune), Denis Ménochet (The French Dispatch), Hayley Squires (In the Earth), Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) and Zoe Lister-Jones (the director of The Craft: Legacy) have joined a cast that also includes Nathan Lane (“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”), Patti LuPone (“Hollywood”), Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building), and Kylie Rogers (“Yellowstone”).
It’s also worth noting that Aster previously helmed a horror-comedy short titled “Beau” in 2011. The short’s plot sees a man undergoing a sinister, haunting chain of events when he loses his keys while on his way to visit his mother. There’s no confirmed connection between his short and Beau is Afraid at this time, however.
This is Aster’s third feature behind Midsommar and Hereditary, all three collaborations with A24.
A24 will produce and finance the film, penned by Aster. Aster and Lars Knudsen are producing for Square Peg.
Aster had teased last year that his next movie would be a “nightmare comedy,”
Look for Beau is Afraid sometime next year. Stay tuned for details on Aster’s latest production as they come.
