All the accolades in the world mean nothing if your product doesn’t sell, right? That’s not a problem for Remedy and Alan Wake II. The return of the eponymous writer has not only earned the developer several awards, but has also become Remedy’s fastest-selling title with over 1.3 million units sold since it first launched digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Epic Games Store last October.
In a new post on Remedy’s website, Alan Wake II’s sales information reveals that Alan Wake II sold 1 million units by the end of December 2023, and 1.3 million units as of the beginning of February 2024. By comparison, Alan Wake II sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Remedy’s earlier hit title, the sci-fi thriller Control, did in its first four months.
Control is no slouch, either. Since its release in 2019, Control has sold over 4 million units, generating a net revenue of approximately 100 million Euros. “A great game can generate excellent long tail sales, and we expect this to be the case with Alan Wake 2 as well,” stated Remedy. And thanks to the Epic Games Store and its weekly freebies, Control has garnered over 10 million players as of 2021, with a sequel currently in development.
“We are happy with the start of Alan Wake II’s sales,” Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala stated in the post. “The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.”
Remedy are currently at work on two story DLCs for Alan Wake II, with the first one speculated to arrive this Spring.
