Let’s be honest, Grey’s Anatomy is not afraid to kill off a character in a heartbreaking and fiery way.
So, when Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 ended with an explosion that rocked the hospital, we knew there was a high chance that someone would not make it out alive.
Admittedly, it’s been some time since the medical drama has killed off a character or two, so it’s long overdue, but there are a few characters I’m not yet ready to say goodbye to.

With the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 premiere images out thanks to Entertainment Weekly, eyes are on who will return.
So far, my heart is still in my chest, as I prepare to lose a favorite.
There are so many shows killing off my favorites — yes, 9-1-1, I’m looking at you!
My heart can’t take any more.
Four Returning Characters Confirmed

With an explosion in the hospital, we know that the chances of a fan favorite dying are high, but we were waiting for the images of the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 premiere to give us some sort of idea as to who could make it out alive.
As of right now, only four characters are confirmed alive, and one of them we expected based on the way the Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 18 concluded.
Meredith Grey was outside the hospital at the time of the explosion, so we knew that she would be safe long before the premiere photos came out.
The photos now confirm that Amelia Shepherd, Simone Griffith, and Winston Ndugu are alive. We even see Amelia fighting hard to get to someone, as Winston holds her back.
Amelia’s reaction suggests that it’s someone close to her whose life is on the line, and that could indicate either Richard Webber, her sober sponsor, or Atticus “Link” Lincoln, the father of her son.

Link’s Fate Has Me Concerned
I’m most worried about Link at this point, and Camilla Luddington, who plays Jo Wilson, is not helping matters, as she has played coy about her on-screen husband’s fate.
Out of all the people in the hospital, Link was in one of the operating rooms when the explosion went off in another one of the rooms, putting him in direct danger.
Sure, there are others who were close, including Monica Beltran and Jules Millin, who were on the floor prepping for surgery, but they could have been just far enough away to miss the initial blast.
If the medical drama is going to kill off any character, Link’s death would weigh the most at this point, as he’s just married to Jo and he has twins on the way, as well as another son.
While there are people like Bailey, Teddy, and Lucas to worry about, the chances of them dying are slim.
Link’s Death Holds the Most Shock Value

After all, if Grey’s Anatomy was going to kill off Teddy, it would have been at the beginning of the season when she was on the operating table due to the dental infection that spread to her heart.
Meredith doesn’t seem worried enough for either Bailey or Webber to be in trouble, and Simone doesn’t seem like she’s losing it in grief for Lucas’ life to be on the line, so it really does come back to Link.
The fact that we haven’t seen any images of Jo for the premiere tells me everything I need to know.
Now I’m even more worried than I was when I watched the Season 21 finale!
