[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Agatha All Along Season 1, Episode 4, “I Can’t Reach You/Let My Song Teach You.”]
The Witches’ Road continues to wind a treacherous path for Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) and her rag-tag coven of witches as Agatha All Along continues to unfold on Disney+.
Facing a new house on the road, the team was swallowed by the ’70s rocker theme of the abode for one music-centric experience that delved deeper into Agatha’s ties to Rio (Aubrey Plaza), who surfaced to replace Sharon (Debra Jo Rupp) after the previous installment’s sad demise. Tapping in as the Green Witch, Rio joined Agatha and the coven for their latest challenge and alluded to a more complicated history between themselves during a private moment alone in the sound booth.
Towards the end of the episode, once they’ve passed the latest level on the Witches’ Road, the coven exchanges battle scar stories, and when Rio brings up having to hurt a witch she cared about, she’s very clearly alluding to Agatha. When the two women step aside from the coven, they get intimately close, almost kissing.
Is there more than meets the eye with this duo? Series showrunner and creator Jac Schaeffer says “yes.”
According to Schaeffer, “Agatha and Rio have a deeper history, and as the show goes on, we get more of that.” Additionally, she says, “Their chemistry is so exciting. And I personally was like, I can’t get enough of these two onscreen.”
Thankfully, there’s more to come as Schaeffer adds, “The audience can expect more of that sort of unpredictability of ‘Do they love each other? Do they hate each other, or is it both?’”
