Police Officer Stuns AGT Judges With Emotional Ed Sheeran Cover

Get ready to ugly cry.

Virginia police officer Mervin Mayo stole the show during America’s Got Talent‘s July 16 episode with a breathtaking performance of Ed Sheeran‘s ballad “Thinking Out Loud.” But even before the Richmond resident’s audition, it was his love story with wife Mechelle that first won the judges over.

As it turned out, it was Mechelle’s support that led Mervin to the AGT stage.

“My wife convinced me,” he told Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofía Vergara and Howie Mandel. “Everything I do, my wife convinces me to do. So, I’m here.”

Plus, Mervin’s dedication to his community proved he truly has a heart of gold.

“I’ve been a police officer for 19 years,” he shared of his career. “I’m not just a regular police officer. I’m a school resource officer and so what that means is that I work in a school with at-risk youth and want to keep them from going to jail.”

Mervin then showcased not only his powerhouse vocals, but also his impressive keyboard skills while serenading his wife, who was lovingly watching his performance backstage.
