I was today years old when I learned that Emmy Rossum is playing Tom Holland’s mom.
Apparently, they’re both starring in The Crowded Room, a new Apple TV+ limited series drama executive produced by Tom Holland. Tom stars as Danny Sullivan, “a man who is arrested following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979.” Emmy will play his young mother, Candy.
But, the Shameless actor is only 36 years old.
And Tom just turned 27 a few days ago.
This means they have less than 10 years between the two of them. And while it seems a little unbelievable on paper — Emmy wasn’t fazed at all by the improbable age gap.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Emmy opened up about playing Tom’s “super young” mother. “It makes sense when I read the script,” she said. “Candy’s a super young mom, she’s almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at age 16. You watch as I age from 25 to 35, which is actually younger than I am now.”
Emmy’s not focused on the small age gap because she “fell in love with the relationship between mother and son and the closeness and everything that they’re grieving in later episodes.”
She especially loved a scene with Zachary Golinger, who plays a younger version of Tom’s character. “Our relationship was so beautiful, and so I knew everything that we had that I had lost in the scenes with Tom. [It] was really fun,” she said.
It’ll be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out. The 10-episode limited series will be released on June 9, 2023.
