Cardi B shared a trick she’s been using for years to keep her hair long and healthy: Boiled onion water.
She recently posted a photo of her hair and shared her hair care routine: “My last 2 washes I been boiling onions and using the water to wash my hair.”
“I used to do this 6 years ago when I started my healthy hair growth journey. I stopped cause I got really lazy. It’s odorless and I notice that it’s been giving a shine to my hair.”
Dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Rosen, told the publication that onion juice can help to stimulate hair follicles and encourage hair growth because onions have a high sulfur count which helps “cleanse the scalp.”
Certified trichologist, Tiffany Young, added that the onion juice needs to be fresh for it to work well. Young explains, “Store products tend to include preservatives which would minimize the onion juice’s potency.”
However, using onion juice for hair loss is not a medically approved treatment, and Dr. Rosen argued that it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for any prescribed treatments.
Dr. Alan Bauman also emphasized that this will not work for all forms of hair loss. “Most hair loss is due to androgenetic alopecia, like male or female pattern baldness, and there is no research to suggest that onion juice provides any benefit for this common genetic condition.”
So there you have it, folks. Make sure to buy an extra onion or two on your next grocery run and add it to your hair care routine ASAP.
