The person at the center of all the It Ends With Us drama still hasn’t said a word about it. So… how does Blake Lively feel about her biggest box office hit being paired with her worst PR year ever??
A source told People on Monday she was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” surrounding the film:
“She initially felt very vulnerable and upset. During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She’s just not used to this kind of drama.”
Well, yeah, that makes sense. The story hasn’t just been how she did a poor job staying respectful to the film’s upsetting subject matter or how she fought with the film’s director and co-star Justin Baldoni. No, she started getting hit with backlash for everything she’d ever done! And every resurfaced interview, every story about her being kind of a Hollywood mean girl, it was all stuff she never faced any backlash for at the time. Like it was all saved up for this one moment in her career. Of course she wasn’t used to this drama! She’d basically never faced any, not even for the Ryan Reynolds cheating stuff!

So yeah, it was tough on her. The insider said this whole promo tour “felt out of control to her.” Sorry, but… why the past tense? Does she assume this is over? And not the new normal, in which a segment of fandom has turned on her forever? It happens these days! Memories are short, but the internet is forever! For better or worse…
Well, the confidant says the controversy won’t slow down Blake, who “enjoys working and will continue to push forward projects that she’s excited about.” Up next? She’s doing the sequel to A Simple Favor, bringing her back together with Anna Kendrick.
The question is, will this controversy change her? Will she take this kind of subject matter more seriously next time? Or will she just complain she’s being mistreated by the press and fans and take no responsibility at all? We fear it may end up being the latter. And if so, she’s probably on track for more drama in the future.
What do YOU think, Perezcious readers? Is Blake going to take away strong lessons from all the IEWU backlash?
