The Smile will return, perhaps sooner than expected, with their second album of the year, on October 4. Cutouts, the follow-up to Wall of Eyes, arrives on XL, following the recent single “Don’t Get Me Started” b/w “The Slip.” Two more new songs, “Foreign Spies” and “Zero Sum,” precede the LP, and they have music videos by Weirdcore. Find the new music below.
The trio of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood with jazz drummer Tom Skinner has spent much of the year touring behind Wall of Eyes. The group recently canceled several shows, however, due to a severe infection that left Greenwood hospitalized in intensive care. “Mercifully he is now out of danger and will soon return home,” the band wrote.
“Don’t Get Me Started” and the previously vinyl-only “The Slip” both feature on the new record. The Smile recorded the new album with producer Sam Petts-Davies in Oxford and at London’s Abbey Road Studios during the same period that brought about Wall of Eyes.
