The Haxan Cloak is back. Listen to “N/Y,” Bobby Krlic’s first song under the moniker since 2013, below.
“‘N/Y’ is a feeling I’ve had for a really long time,” The Haxan Cloak shared in a statement. “It was made with the intention of being something that I could play live only, and was just this burst of intensity that could re-contextualize anywhere I would play it in. I kept working on it and it became something that I wanted to hear regardless of the context.”
Krlic also directed the single’s music video, which he said he made “in the same way. Making charcoal drawings and oil paintings, then fusing these together with self-shot video of myself in my studio. It feels immediate and without compromise. It was made quickly, in a moment, with complete intention. I really hope it changes the space you’re in.”
“N/Y” is out via Archaic Devices, a new label The Haxan Cloak started himself. After regaining the master tapes to his previous releases, the composer-producer revealed his plans to re-release his discography — including 2011’s The Haxan Cloak, 2013’s Excavation, and the Observatory EP — on the label. He’s also teased more music to come. Pre-orders for the electronic artist’s remastered works are ongoing, and they hit shelves November 22nd.
In addition to producing works by Björk, Father John Misty, and Troye Sivan in recent years, Krlic has become a revered composer. Most notably, he wrote the score to Ari Aster’s Midsommar.
