After hitting Brooklyn’s Barclays center in 2021, the MTV Video Music Awards returned to the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Sunday (Aug. 28).
The red carpet saw everyone from Dove Cameron to Måneskin to Chloe Bailey to Anitta to Lizzo rocking eye-popping looks.
Floral prints were a red carpet theme at the 2022 VMAs, with both Dove Cameron and Sabrina Carpenter rocking petals at the pre-show, though Cameron’s was a little moody and darker than Carpenter’s vibrant look. Blackpink blossomed a bit too, with Jennie’s dark dress boasting a floral skirt while the rest of the group kept it cool with solid black fashion. Måneskin was similarly decked out in dark threads, while Jack Harlow wore a black leather suit for his red carpet appearance.
The 2022 MTV VMAs see hip-hop icon Nicki Minaj receiving the Video Vanguard Award, in addition to anchoring the show alongside LL Cool J and Harlow. Red Hot Chili Peppers are the 2022 VMAs Global Icon Award recipients.
Minaj, Harlow and RHCP will perform at the 2022 VMAs ceremony, as well as a huge roster of cross-genre artists: Anitta, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Blackpink, Kane Brown, Eminem and Snoop Dogg, Marshmello and Khalid, Lizzo, Måneskin and Panic! at the Disco.
Doja Cat, Harlow and Harry Styles are this year’s top nominees, with eight nods each. Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X have seven nods each, with Billie Eilish scoring six nods. BTS, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Future, Lizzo, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd all have five nominations each.
