Johnny Depp and Sydney Sweeney are set to star in a new supernatural thriller called Day Drinker from 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb.
The news comes from Jeff Sneider’s TheInSneider newsletter.
Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War, Fast X) reportedly wrote the script, which follows an “enigmatic stranger (Depp) and a bartender (Sweeney) mourning the loss of her lover.” It’s said to explore themes of “love, friendship, and revenge.”
The film marks one of Depp’s first major projects since winning his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2021. He most recently portrayed King Louis XV in the 2023 historical drama, Jeanne du Barry. He also directed a film about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, which is currently in post-production.
Meanwhile, Sweeney is riding high following the success of the rom com Anyone But You and the horror film Immaculate along with hosting Saturday Night Live. And she managed to do all of that on only two hours of sleep and with no coffee.
