Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan saw an opportunity, and they took it. After surprising fans with a duet of the latter’s “Hot to Go!” at the former’s Guts World Tour concert in Los Angeles, the two friends posted a hilarious TikTok capitalizing on one of the app’s latest trends.
In the clip posted Wednesday (Aug. 21), the “Vampire” singer and “Good Luck, Babe!” artist stand on the floor of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. “I hope she plays ‘Hot to Go!,’” Rodrigo says before the video cuts to Roan, who replies, “This is an Olivia Rodrigo concert, b—h.”
At that, Rodrigo just shrugs. But unlike most of the TikToks by other creators using the same joke format — suggesting that an artist might perform a certain song when in reality, they aren’t even at that artist’s concert — the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alum’s video actually does cut to footage of her performing “Hot to Go!” on stage with Roan, both of them doing the YMCA-esque choreography created by the Missouri native for her song.
The post comes just after Roan — who previously opened for Rodrigo’s Guts trek — joined her pal on stage to perform the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess hit, days after a clip of the “Bad Idea, Right?” singer rehearsing “Hot to Go!” with her band made rounds online. “I’ve known this next artist for about four years now,” Rodrigo introduced Roan before their energetic performance. “I absolutely adore her. I think she is one of the most singular, inspiring, powerful artists I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I’m so excited because she’s gonna sing one of my favorite songs of all time with me tonight.”
“Hot to Go!” is currently sitting at a peak of No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, with Midwest Princess reaching an all-time high so far of No. 2 — just under Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department — on the Billboard 200 chart dated Aug. 24. Roan has a total of seven songs charting on the first tally, including “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Pink Pony Club,” “Casual,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “Feminineomenon” and “My Kink Is Karma.”
