Nicki Minaj was arrested and temporarily detained in The Netherlands after police found marijuana in her luggage when she attempted to board a plane.
Minaj documented portions of her interaction with police officers on social media, and insinuated, without evidence, that the incident was an attempt by unidentified individuals to sabotage her ongoing world tour. “They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me,” she wrote in one social media post. Minaj also claimed the marijuana belonged to one of her security guards.
According to Dutch authorities, Minaj was detained on suspicion of “exporting soft drugs,” and was released from custody after paying a fine.
In a lengthy statement posted to social media posted following her release, Minaj said she sat in “a jail cell for 5-6 hours.” Due to her time in custody, she was forced to postpone her show scheduled in Manchester, UK on Saturday evening. “So they succeeded at their plan to not let me get on that stage tonight,” she wrote. “I succeeded @ getting to the root of it all by recording them & posting everything in real time. I have sooooooooo much video evidence. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you. I’ll have the lawyers & GOD take it from here tho.” Minaj also promised to rescheduled the Manchester performance, with details arriving as soon as tomorrow.
Pending no further arrests, Minaj is scheduled to play shows in the UK and Europe through the end of July, and she is teasing another leg of American shows. Get tickets here.
