Soccer Mommy has shared a cover of Sheryl Crow’s classic C’mon, C’mon single “Soak Up the Sun.” Listen to Sophie Allison’s shoegaze spin on the early aughts hit below.
Allison is a longtime fan of Crow; speaking with The New York Times last year, she said: “[Crow] has so many songs that are these massive hits that, at least for someone my age, you can’t have grown up and not heard those songs.” Allison added that the singer-songwriter “has a knack for saying something hard, but making it feel like she’s ready to acknowledge it and be cool with this hard acceptance.”
The new cover arrives mere hours before Allison and her band kick off a North American tour supporting Maggie Rogers, starting with a show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York.
Soccer Mommy issued her most recent full-length Sometimes, Forever last summer. Early this year, she and her band stopped by the NPR office to play a “Tiny Desk Concert,” featuring a set that spanned her three studio albums: 2018’s Clean, 2020’s Color Theory, and the latest LP.
