Jack Black celebrated the 100 birthday of Tom Morello’s mom Mary with the gift of song. The actor-musician joined a band of ridiculously talented 12 and 13 year olds to perform the Ozzy Osbourne classic “Mr. Crowley” during a birthday party for the centenarian.
Tom shared video of the performance on his Instagram account on Tuesday (October 3rd), writing, “Mary Morello’s 100th bday celebration featured a stirring rendition of @ozzyosbourne & #RandyRhoads ‘Mr. Crowley’ performed by @jackblack and a kick ass band of 12 & 13 year olds! Mary was pleased!”
Black performing an Ozzy song about the notorious British occultist Aleister Crowley for the 100th birthday of the mother of Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist is truly a wild thought, but then again, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Tenacious D singer.
Like he always does, Black sung his heart out on the metal classic, with the young band giving off some serious School of Rock vibes, including a couple of blistering solos by the guitarist, none other than Morello’s son Roman. The young Morello even went full Hendrix toward the end of the song, playing the guitar behind his back.
Tom has always championed his mother Mary, who’s been an activist her whole life, battling for civil rights and free speech, among other causes. She turned 100 on Sunday (October 1st).
