After 10 years, fans are getting their first official look at the latest entry in the beloved Grand Theft Auto franchise. On Monday, December 4th, Rockstar Games shared the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, due in 2025. Watch it below.
Opening with the keyboard intro of Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road,” the trailer begins by introducing us to a female main character named Lucia, clad in an orange jumpsuit, who informs a correctional officer that she just has “bad luck, I guess.” Then, as the blast of Petty’s distorted guitars hits, viewers are given a dazzling tour of the game’s world: a new and improved Vice City, based off Miami, complete with sandy beaches, towering skyscrapers, untamed wetlands, and more.
From there, the trailer offers a peek into the wider world Rockstar has built for the game, including shots of in-game social media livestreams (of humorously Florida-esque behavior), news reports, robberies, an alligator wandering into a convenience store, and more. Check it out below.
The trailer was announced by Rockstar on Friday, December 1st, and was originally supposed to be released on Tuesday, December 5th, but after a leaked version was posted to YouTube, Rockstar chose to share the trailer themselves a day early. “Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube,” a Tweet from the publisher read.
The exact release date of Grand Theft Auto VI is unknown at this time, but the trailer confirms that it is “Coming 2025.” The game was first publicized to be in development in 2022, and was victim to a massive leak that same year. The previous entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, was released in 2013.
