Coheed and Cambria have released the new song “Blind Side Sonny,” billed as one of their most aggressive tracks to date.
It’s the first tease from the band’s next album and follow-up to 2022’s Vaxis Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind. The track also introduces Sonny, a new villain in the band’s “The Amory Wars/Vaxis” universe.

Musically, it’s a roaring ripper of a tune, clocking in at just over two minutes and 20 seconds. Claudio Sanchez delivers an unhinged vocal performance that would be appropriate on a garage punk or hardcore song, as the band cranks up the tempo to mosh-inducing speeds.
“‘Blind Side Sonny’ is a song about revenge,” commented Sanchez in the press release. “What may seem like an innocent choice to someone could be the breeding ground of another’s malicious misunderstanding. Perception can be your worst enemy.”
The accompanying Max Moore-directed music video sees Sonny making an appearance in the flesh. The zombified figure lurks nearby as Coheed tear through the song to a raucous crowd — one of the more exuberant audiences we’ve seen in a performance video — before making his way into the fray of fans. A closeup of Sonny — who calls to mind Iron Maiden mascot Eddie — can be seen on the single artwork below.
Coheed just wrapped up a major tour with Incubus, but the band still has a couple US festival dates left in 2024: Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 5th; and at When We Were Young on October 19th and 20th in Las Vegas. Get tickets here.
