Aphex Twin is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his 1994 sophomore studio album Selected Ambient Works Volume II with a new box set, arriving on October 4th.
The collection will be available in four different formats — a massive, $300 vinyl box set, a simpler, $50 vinyl set, a CD set, and a cassette set. The large 4xLP box set is available via a pre-order window that runs until June 24th at 10:00 a.m. BST. Meanwhile, Aphex Twin has also added a variety of T-shirts and other merchandise that can be paired with copies of the Selected Ambient Works Volume II. Check out the full selection of available items on Aphex Twin’s online shop.
Released on March 7th, 1994, Selected Ambient Works Volume II was released as a follow-up to Aphex Twin’s first Selected Ambient Works album, which had been recorded and collected over a span of seven years. Volume II featured a darker sound than its predecessor, and became known for establishing Aphex Twin as a major figure in ambient, techno, and the then-burgeoning genre of IDM.
Aphex Twin has been quiet so far this year, but last year he put out a full stream of his 2023 Field Day festival set. He also (allegedly) dropped a pair of songs on Soundcloud that consisted of recordings from 2006-2007.
