Alex Van Halen marked what would’ve been the late Eddie Van Halen’s 71st birthday on Monday by sharing a home video of his brother playing guitar as a young boy.
Unfortunately, the video has no sound, but it’s easy to see the joy and passion in Eddie’s playing. At one point, it briefly cuts to video of a young Alex giving a big smile for the camera.

Along with the video clip, Alex quoted a message from his nephew Wolfgang Van Halen, reading, “Al, you and dad changed the world of music.”
Wolfgang gave the post three red heart emojis in the comments, while his mom, Valerie Bertinelli, gave it a single white heart.
Earlier this month, Alex confirmed he’s working on a new album with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather. The music is expected to incorporate recordings that Eddie wrote and recorded before his passing in 2020.
