Critics love The Toxic Avenger in their reviews
Peter Dinklage’s The Toxic Avenger has garnered praise from critics in its early reviews. The 2023 movie, which failed to find a distributor for two years, is getting a delayed release in theaters on Friday.
According to the movie’s website, the story focuses on a janitor named Winston Gooze. Gooze, after getting “exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident,” becomes “a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger.”
Furthermore, Dinklage’s character Toxie now works on becoming a savior from an outcast. He also fights “ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community.”
Ben Robins of HeyUGuys wrote that The Toxic Avenger is “a lovingly crafted, extremely niche, surprisingly expensive-looking cult comedy with a totally killer gag-rate — the best possible new big screen outing for one of the weirdest and most nonsensical characters around.”
Josh Wilding of ComicBookMovie.com stated that the movie “delivers a gloriously demented new take on Toxie and proves to be a delightfully unhinged experience full of violence, hilarious, weird jokes, and even a little bit of heart thrown in for good measure.”
Becca Johnson of Film Focus Online asserted that the movie has “excellent performances and a punk-rock attitude.” She added, “The Toxic Avenger puts wild action and gore at the forefront to create a b—— crazy viewing experience.”
Vickey Lawrence of Starburst lauded the movie for staying “true to the Troma-tastic chaos, gore and campiness from the original, while bringing us a new and improved look that gives it a sleek finish in a weird sludge-soaked way.”
