Taylor Sheridan has given an update on the rumored Matthew McConaughey-led Yellowstone spin-off. The creator revealed the team behind the show has had talks with the actor.
Sheridan has spoken with McConaughey about the show
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a recent wide-ranging interview, Sheridan acknowledged the rumored spin-off series, which is reported to be “a new chapter” in the ongoing franchise. Sheridan called the actor “a natural fit,” and said that he responded well to Yellowstone once he saw it.
“He seems like a natural fit,” Sheridan said. “We had a few conversations over the years, and spitballed a few ideas. Then he started watching Yellowstone and responded to it. He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do.’ “
Earlier this year, THR confirmed that McConaughey was in talks to lead a Yellowstone spin-off. This followed reports that the main series may end sooner than anticipated, thanks to disagreements over series star Kevin Costner’s shooting schedule (via Deadline).
Reportedly, Costner wanted to spend only a week on the second half of Yellowstone Season 5 after wanting to shoot the first half of the season for 50 days — itself a reduction from his previous limit of 65 days of shooting.
At present, there is little information regarding the potential Matthew McConaughey-led spin-off.
Yellowstone is created was Taylor Sheridan and John Linson. It stars Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Jefferson White, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham, Gil Birmingham, Jen Landon, and Kathryn Kelly.
