Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian‘s Executive Producer and Lucasfilm’s Executive Creative Director, has talked a bit about his time shadowing various Star Wars directors during the production of the sequel trilogy, including Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.
While speaking with THR, Filoni explained how much he had learned from his time shadowing Johnson during the production of The Last Jedi and revealed that he still speaks regularly with the director.
“Rian was the one who shoved me up front, sticking lenses in my hand and really getting me immersed in it,” Filoni stated. “And so I still talk with him to this day. He’s obviously a very talented filmmaker, and I was just very fortunate to be in such an environment where I could sit and listen and learn.”
Filoni has gone on to direct a few live-action Star Wars projects, including three episodes of The Mandalorian and multiple episodes of the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka. The latter is based on the titular character that Filoni and Star Wars creator George Lucas created for the animated movie and series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Quite a few Star Wars projects are on the horizon, including the Disney+ series Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. The third season of The Mandalorian is currently releasing weekly on Disney+, while the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is nearing its April 28 release date.
