After a successful first season, Netflix K-drama Sweet Home will make its return for a second season on December 1, 2023. Fans of the series have been waiting for a second installment for the past three years. Now, the K-drama returns bigger and better than the first season, if the newly released trailer is anything to go by.
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Netflix unveiled the trailer of Sweet Home season 2, starring Song Kang as the lead. Adapted from the webtoon by the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan, the K-drama follows the story of the Green Home survivors. Song Kang plays Hyun-Su, who is on a mission to protect himself and the people to hold onto their humanity.
Sweet Home Season 2: Netflix release date, cast, trailer & more
The newly released trailer depicts a dilapidated stadium, which is presumably the setting for the second season. The description of the trailer gives context to how interesting the second season will be. While season 1 showed the Green Home apartment run by monsters, this time they will have to battle against the entire world.
Sweet Home season 2 trailer showcases residents leaving Green Home, establishing their community at the stadium. However, a chained and blood-soaked Song Kang is taken out of a cage. His character, Hyun-Su, looks into a dark, isolated room where a voice from above says, “We meet at last. Cha Hyun-Su, are you the savior who can end all this?”
Gradually, the scene shifts to the characters encountering new dangers in monsters of the outside world while also fighting against their own monstrous identities. The chaotic running around of people, trapped in buildings and protecting themselves from the monsters, takes centre stage, which makes for a thrilling watch.
The trailer concludes with the announcement that Song Kang will undergo a new experiment with the name MH-5. He also possesses the antidote that can help him solve the crisis.
Meanwhile, the trailer gives a sneak peak of fellow cast members, including Lee Jin-Uk and Go Min-Si. Other cast members of the drama are Lee Si-Young, Jung Jin-Young, Yoo Oh-Seong, Oh Jung-Se, Kim Moo-Yeol, and Park Gyu-Young. Lee Eung-Bok and Park So-Hyeon serve as the directors. The drama is produced by Studio Dragon and Studio N.
Director & cast talk about the Song-Kang led drama
Director Lee Eung-Bok termed the series as a “full-fledged apocalyptic drama.” He also confirmed that unlike season 1, the second season will be set in an open space with new characters and monsters.
Actor Lee Jin-Uk echoed the director’s sentiments when he said, “This season will present a world that diverges from the original webtoon. As the world expands, there will be more to think about.” Fellow cast member Lee Si-Young promised character growth, remarking, “A vastly sprawling world awaits the characters after they leave Green Home. Everyone will go through major changes.”
The official synopsis for Sweet Home season 2 reads, “In a world where desire turns monstrous, Sweet Home season 2 follows Green Home survivors and Hyun-su, each fighting to survive in new places, while other beings and mysterious phenomena emerge.”
While there is no official update on the episodic pattern, it is highly possible that, just like season 1, all of the episodes will be released together. As such, this might make it the perfect binge-watch for the series lovers.
