Want to know if the Ranma 1/2 manga is finished or if there will be more chapters? If you are new to the series, you might want to check out the manga and its current status. So, here is a guide on whether the Ranma 1/2 manga is over or ongoing.
Is the Ranma 1/2 manga finished?
The Ranma 1/2 manga has finished serialization. It ran from August 1987 to March 1996.
The series has a total of 407 chapters and 38 volumes. Viz Media handles the North American and English releases of the series, and they have compiled the volumes into 2-in-1 editions. Currently, the English version of the series has 19 volumes in total.
Ranma 1/2 is an adventure and martial arts series illustrated and written by Rumiko Takahashi. Takahashi is also the author of Urusei Yatsura and Inuyasha. Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine serialized Ranma 1/2 from August 1987 to March 1996. The first anime adaptation aired in April 1989, with Studio Deen producing the show. It had a total of 18 episodes before getting canceled because of low ratings. Studio Deen produced another adaptation in October 1989, titled Ranma 1/2 Nettohen, which ran for 143 episodes.
The series is getting a remake by MAPPA and the first trailer of the remake was recently released. The announcement also included the official cast, with most of the cast from the previous anime reprising their roles. The 2024 remake will be out on Saturday, October 5, and will be available to stream on Netflix.
The synopsis from Viz Media states:
“Being a teenage martial artist isn’t easy, especially for Ranma Saotome. During a training mission, Ranma takes an accidental dunk in a legendary cursed spring in China. Now, every time he’s splashed with cold water, he changes into a girl! That would be enough to complicate anyone’s life, even without the arranged fiancée who doesn’t like him (or says she doesn’t) and the constant stream of rivals and suitors for both his male and female forms. What’s a half guy, half girl to do?”
