Nintendo announced its plans for the August Nintendo Direct, which will include two showcases. As the company has noted before, neither of these showcases will have updates on the Nintendo Switch 2.
When is the August Nintendo Direct?
The Indie World Showcase will begin on August 27, 2024 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. The August Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase will stream right after. The live stream will clock in around 40 minutes, according to Nintendo. It can be streamed on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel here.
Similarly to recent Nintendo Directs, Nintendo also noted updates for the Switch 2 will not be present. “Please note, there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during either of these presentations,” says the company on Twitter.
Nintendo did not specify how the 40 minutes would be distributed between the two showcases. However, the previous Indie World and Partner Showcases each clocked in a little over 20 minutes long. Typically with these posts, the general release window of the games shown are specified. That is not the case here, which means some of the announced games might not release until 2025 and beyond.
Nintendo’s Indie World Showcases specifically spotlights indie games. For example, the showcase back in April featured games like Antonblast, Animal Well, Steamworld Heist 2, and Lorlei and the Laser Eyes. With the showcase being indie focused, many are probably anticipating a Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer.
The August Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase features games from Nintendo’s publishing and development partners. This means first party games should not be expected. The last Partner Showcase featured games like Grounded, Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure, and Pentiment.
Not much is known about the Nintendo Switch successor. However, back in May, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed an announcement for the upcoming console would come within this fiscal year. That means Switch 2 reveal news is expected to release by March 2025.
