Another live-action Dora the Explorer movie is in the works.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Samantha Lorraine has been cast as Dora in a brand-new, live-action Dora the Explorer movie for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.
Lorraine is best known for starring in 2023’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. She also appeared in several episodes of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
The film, which currently has the working title of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, is being directed by Alberto Belli, who previously made 2022’s Gatlopp and 2023’s The Naughty Nine. The screenplay comes from J.T. Billings.
“The script follows as Dora, her cousin Diego and their new friends trek through perilous dangers of the Amazonian jungle in search of the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado in order to keep this powerful treasure out of enemy hands,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description of the film reads. “Swiper no swiping!”
Further casting information has not yet been announced.
The first live-action Dora the Explorer movie was released in 2019
Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado will be the second time that Dora the Explorer has gotten the live-action treatment. Isabela Merced, who is now playing Hawkgirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, portrayed the character in 2019’s Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold was a financial success for Paramount Pictures, as it brought in $120.6 million at the global box office off of an estimated budget of $49 million. Along with Merced, it starred Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Jeff Wahlberg, Madeleine Madden, and Temuera Morrison.
Additionally, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which was directed by James Bobin, had a voice cast featuring Danny Trejo as Boots, Benicio del Toro as Swiper, Marc Weiner as Map, and Sasha Toro as Backpack.
A release date for the new live-action Dora the Explorer movie has not yet been announced.
