The first wave of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends action figures for the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have appeared online, and they give some interesting backstory to Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099.
The new line of figures was recently officially unveiled, and thanks to Instagram user mcucollector24 (via Comic Book Movie), the packaging for each figure has been revealed. On the box for Spider-Man 2099, the origin for Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, is revealed. According to the figure’s packaging, O’Hara was attempting to “create a new superhero” when he accidentally turned himself into “the best Spider-Man in the multi-verse.”
Currently, it’s unclear whether or not this backstory will appear in the upcoming film, but given that the first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, did explore various backstories for characters, it wouldn’t be too shocking.

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” reads the synopsis. “After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg with Alonzo Ruvalcaba. Peter Ramsey — the first film’s director — and Aditya Sood are executive producing.
