One bride, one design house, three wedding dresses: Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Lauren confirmed today the rumors that she did indeed wear the brand to her Georgia wedding to Ben Affleck. Lopez shared on her On the JLo newsletter that she didn’t wear just one couture dress, but multiple from Ralph Lauren. Now, Ralph Lauren has released photos detailing her main ceremony dress’s making, along with sketches of all three dresses worn.
Ralph Lauren also broke down the details of each dress, the materials used for it, and its inspiration. For the main ceremony dress, “the handkerchief wedding gown reimagines a turtleneck column dress with the addition of a dramatic ruffle hem,” the house shared in a press release. “Over 1000 hand-cut handkerchiefs and 500 meters of fabric were cut into ruffles and attached by hand, creating a voluminous, romantic skirt. The intricately constructed sleeve is inset with a cascading ruffle, draped from the back of the turtleneck to the shoulder to create a romantic, heritage-inspired sensibility.”
Post-ceremony, Lopez wore two other dresses, a “chandelier pearl gown…adorned with thousands of cascading strings of pearls,” and a “a sleek mermaid silhouette with a keyhole neckline embellished with Swarovski crystals of varying shapes and shades of white and is completed with a full skirt and topped with an organza overlay.” The second dress had 30 people working on it over 700 hours “to hand embroider the gown with micro-pleats of silk tulle, tiny pearl embellishments, and Swarovski crystal,” Ralph Lauren shared.
Lopez shared first look photos of her in each dress in her newsletter, promising she would share more soon.
