Margot Robbie has committed to Barbie pink for her Barbie movie press tour so far, which is expected from the woman playing the iconic Mattel doll on the big screen. Over the weekend, she continued her dedication to the trend two different pink looks. She started in a pink bustier and pleated mini skirt on Saturday. She posed in front of a pink convertible, which only added even more Barbie energy.
Her stylist Andrew Mukamal unveiled the first look on Instagram. The two-piece ensemble is from Bottega Veneta, while Robbie’s shoes are from Manolo Blahnik.
On Sunday, Robbie attended the press junket for Barbie in Beverly Hills, wearing a pink polka dot halter Valentino minidress with a yellow bag and white Manolo Blahnik heels.
Notably, she was the only cast member wearing pink at the event.
Robbie spoke to Vogue in an interview released this May about how she didn’t actually see herself playing Barbie at first. “It wasn’t that I ever wanted to play Barbie, or dreamt of being Barbie, or anything like that,” she said. “This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project.”
Her production company, LuckyChap, had sought rights to the Barbie IP years before, which is when her involvement in the project began.
Robbie also told Vogue that she approached Barbie as a character that doesn’t feel sexual desire. “I’m like, Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs,” Robbie said. “If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs. If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think she could. [So yes,] she is sexualized. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her. Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”
